Zorn Palette - Pasadena City Hall in Gouache

🎨 Paint an iconic landmark using a classic, refined palette. In this demo, instructor Tayler Olivas guides you through rendering Pasadena City Hall in gouache using the tight, purposeful Zorn Palette—a limited set of colors that focuses your visual decisions and strengthens your skill.

You’ll learn how to:
🏛️ Use the Zorn Palette (titanium white, yellow ochre, alizarin crimson/red, and ivory or lamp black) to build a full, expressive scene with strong value and controlled color.
🚦 Interpret architectural forms and lighting at Pasadena City Hall with clarity—simplifying complex shapes into manageable units of value, edge, and form.
🎨 Make every brush-stroke count—because with a limited palette you're forced to think more strategically about contrast, warmth and cool, and visual hierarchy.
🧠 Strengthen your foundation: when you limit your color choices, you sharpen your ability to see value and structure clearly—skills that transfer to any subject.

Ideal for intermediate-level painters who want to refine their process, deepen their control over color and value, and take a familiar subject into a more expressive, confident space. 🕒 Runtime: 1+ hour
